Fifteen jobs, one pool deck.
This tells you which one is first.

Score everything competing for your attention, and the grid sorts the pile

Your list

Impact 1–10 · Ease 1–10, where 10 is easiest

  • This tool needs JavaScript. You can still run the grid on paper: list every job, score each one out of 10 for impact and out of 10 for ease, then start with whichever sits closest to the top-right corner and work outwards.

Your tasks plotted by impact and ease

Work in this order

    Keep it

Your grid lives in a link.

One link holds every task, both scores and what you have ticked off. Bookmark it, keep it in your notes, or send it to whoever runs the place with you. Any device, and it does not expire.

Nothing is stored by us. Your list is scored in your own browser, there is no account to make, and we never see it unless you use the opt-in below. Browsers do clear this kind of storage on their own, so copy the link if the list matters.

    How to read it

    Two scores, one corner

    Impact

How much it moves the needle, not how big the job is. How big the result is. Chasing the failed direct debits sitting in your CRM is a small job with a large number attached to it. Reorganising the equipment store is the reverse. Score the result, not the effort.

    Ease

How quickly and cheaply you can actually do it, where 10 is easiest. This is the one people score backwards, so read it twice: a 10 is something you could start this afternoon, a 1 needs money, a contract, or somebody you have not hired yet. The pool lease is a 1. Ringing last month's no-shows is a 9.

    The order

Closest to the top-right corner goes first, and the dotted arcs sweep outwards from it. Impact and ease count equally, so a big job you cannot start yet waits behind a decent job you can. It is not saying the lease does not matter. It is saying it is not Monday's job.

    Before you start

The grid only ranks what you put in it

If the job that is quietly costing you the most never makes it onto the list, the grid will sort everything else beautifully and you will still be losing the money. The brain dump is the part that decides whether any of this works.

Do that badly and the arithmetic cannot save you.

    Optional

Want the link in your inbox?

The grid is yours either way.
No email needed, and no limit on how often you use it.

We will send your grid link and the occasional Fast Lane issue. Unsubscribe any time. Your tasks are scored in your own browser. The only thing that reaches us is the link and what you type above.

Now you know what is first. Next week there will be fifteen more.

The Fast Lane is one real thing from a real pool deck every week, from two people still running swim schools. Free, and you can leave whenever you like.
